Jess Mayhugh is an award-winning writer and editor with 15-plus years of journalism experience.
Most recently, she was the managing editor at Vox Media brands Eater and Punch, where she oversaw daily operations, maintained editorial calendars, and project managed large-scale packages. She led the campaign for Eater’s 20th anniversary milestone, launched the company’s first-ever cross-brand newsletter that covers the hospitality industry, and project managed the brand’s restaurant discovery app. Before that, she worked in editorial roles for Thrillist, Baltimore, Smithsonian, and Inc. magazines.
Her writing has appeared in The Atlantic, The New York Times, Saveur, Serious Eats, and All About Beer and her work has been awarded by the James Beard Foundation, the American Society of Magazine Editors, and the City and Regional Magazine Association. She is a proud graduate of the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism, the Emerging Media master’s program at Loyola University, and has taught digital publishing at Towson University. In 2026, she co-founded Folly, a newsletter to share honest, messy, and complicated stories about starting a family.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Jess prefers her crab cakes broiled, her Boulevardiers with rye whiskey, and will challenge anyone to name a more beautiful ballpark than Camden Yards. She lives with her husband, son, and two cats in the bustling neighborhood of Hampden.
